April Page Count Contest

So, I should be writing. Emphasis on should. But my family is planning a trip to Las Vegas this fall (my brother and his fiancee want to get married there) and the dates are not set, which means I can't set the release date for Moon Dance yet anyway. (I'm now hoping for early December, which would suit the book since it's Christmas-y.) Still, I should be working.

But I can't. Sometimes, you need a break. And for me, getting involved in the April Page Count Contest offers a great opportunity to catch up on all the reading I've been missing -- and to prep my blog for when I really get back to work, not that I'll be totally neglecting Moon Dance edits this month. (You think my characters would let me do that? Pfft! Fat chance!)

I'm more worried about actually getting reading done and having fun then whether I win, but as always when I take on a big project I've set up some incentives for myself.

I have a ton of books I've bought in the last few months. They are clogging up my bedroom. And I can't know what to do with each one until I read it. I also have my fabulous new Kindle that I bought last October and I am growing ever more fond of it. So for every three books I complete in Physical copy that I have sitting here, I'll be letting myself pick up one new book for my Kindle.

Here is my April TBR. I normally don't plan my reading, but under these circumstances, I figure having at least an idea might help. Of course, I may read all or none of these. We shall see.

Amy and Roger's Epic Detour
by Morgan Matson

Why I Want To Read It: This was recommended to me by Marie over at Ramblings of a Daydreamer. Marie and I tend to like the same stuff, so this should be a good match.

My thoughts:: I've been traveling with my family since I was very young, and I feel that Morgan Matson succeeded wonderfully at capturing the feeling of exploration and wonder that go into seeing a new place. I felt that Amy was a great narrator; I felt deeply for her. And of course, Roger was a total sweetheart. This book isn't without it's moments that squeeze at your heart and put tears in your eyes, but all in all it was a joy to read and I loved it.

Why?: It's time I loved Will Grayson, Will Grayson, but it's time I gave John Green a chance on his own.

Why?: I've wanted to read this from the first moment I heard about it. The cover and premise hooked me, the heroine's name makes me cringe. I wonder what I'll actually think of the book?

Why?: The title speaks for itself. I read the description and basically went, "Oh my God, I have to read that!" And I will.

The Goddess Test

Why?: I'm a picky mythology buff. I know this book is going to make my hair stand up the wrong way, but I'm curious whether it can provide a good story anyway. I'm too curious to keep ignoring it.

Why?: This was recommended by Bonnie over at A Backward Story, and I trust her opinion.

Touch of Power
by Maria V Snyder

Why?: After ten years of playing healers in MMOs it is going to be very refreshing to see a healing character of any sort be the heroine of a novel. I've also heard great things about the author's writing and world building.

My Ultimate Goal: is to read 16 books, or 5,000 pages.

The * next to a book indicates I own the entire series and might choose to read them back to back since I'm already ahead on reviews right now anyway. We'll see.
