First up: I'm flattered. My blog is pretty new at this point so being asked to review something is pretty exciting.
But before you go to all of the trouble of telling me about your book and why I should review it, I think its only fair that I should tell you what I read, what I don't, what I can do for you and what I won't. So without further ado...
What I Read:
I Write, I Read, I Review is primarily (roughly 99%) a YA Book Blog. I, personally, read lots of different genres. But if your book is not YA (or really good MG that catches my interest.) I probably can't help you. But YA is a big topic. Let me narrow it down a little so you can get an idea of what I tend to read with it:
Genres I Like:
Romance: This is the center of my blog and my focus as a reader. If your book has a well written romance at the center of it or as a well developed subplot, you are one step closer to catching my interest. I have read books that do not have any form of romantic focus, but it does not happen very often.
Contemporary: I am fairly new to contemporary YA, but I am coming to enjoy it a great deal. Books I have enjoyed and reviewed in this genre include: Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles, The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson and The DUFF by Kody Keplinger.
Paranormal Romance: I have a long history with PNR in adult fiction. I do not have a lot of PNR reviews up on my blog right now. This is mostly because the series I enjoy have not released new books since my blog was created this June. Examples of Paranormal Romance that I enjoy include Vampire Academy, Blue Bloods and House of Night.
Dystopian: I didn't actually intend to get into Dystopian YA, but when WalMart had nothing interesting in stock except The Hunger Games I caved in and I am so glad that I did. Other Dystopian YA I have enjoyed includes Bumped by Megan McCafferty, Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins and Divergent by Veronica Roth.
Fantasy / Urban Fantasy: I don't think that I have reviewed any Fantasy or Urban Fantasy yet. However, I do like these genres if the premise of a book catches my interest. (My own work in progress, Moon Dance, is actually urban fantasy.) Examples of this genre that I have read include J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis and Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson books.
I Probably Won't Read:
Non-Fiction
Horror
Memoirs
Mysteries
Picture Books
What I Can Do For You:
1. If I agree to review a book for you, I will attempt to do so in a timely manner. I'm usually a pretty fast reader and I tend to do my reviews shortly after reading a book so that I am sharing my thoughts while the material is fresh in my mind.
2. I am delighted to do author interviews or giveaways to help promote your book. I am also happy to show off your book trailer (if you have one) and participate in book tours.
3. I post my reviews here on my blog, and on GoodReads. I also have an Amazon.com account and I am happy to post my review on it as well. (Generally I will do this the day your book releases.) When I post a review, I also generally announce it on the YA Blogroll on Absolute Write and I tweet about it.
What I Won't Do:
1. I will not tell people that I like your book if that is not the truth. My reviews are always my honest opinion about what I have read. If you want to understand my review process and rating system, I suggest that you click here.
2. I will not force myself to finish something that I hate. While I make every possible attempt to complete books that I accept for review, I am human. There are several reasons that I might not complete a book or that the review might be delayed. These include, but are not limited to: real life issues, health issues or not being able to retain interest in a book. I will generally read 50 to 100 pages of a book before I question whether I will complete it. In the event that I cannot, for some reason, review your book I will notify you of this. Trust me: you do not want me reviewing your book if I don't want to finish it.
Still Want Me To Review Your Book?
Great! Here is what you need to send me so that I can decide whether it would be a good match for my tastes and this blog:
- The title of the book
- The Author's name
- A description of what the book is about, as well as why you think I will enjoy it.
- The publication date of the book, if it's not already published
