[Contest *and* Giveaway] Who Do You Love?
Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the best book boyfriend of all?
In keeping with this silly Disney fairy tale theme I've started with, I'll answer that with what Ursula says to Ariel in The Little Mermaid: "Tough choice, isn't it?"
I definitely think that it is! But in the spirit of Valentines Day I'm pleased to announce this event, where I'm hoping everyone will get involved and show some love to their favorite book boy on February 14th.
Q: How Can I Get Involved?
First up: Grab the "Who Do You Love?" banner.
Now create a post on your blog about your favorite book boy and stick that at the top so we know what event it's for. Tell everybody why you think he's great, how you discovered him / the book(s) he's in, why we absolutely *must* read about him... Get creative! Have fun with it! Put your heart into it! (I couldn't resist that last one, guys. Really.)
To make sure everyone can see all of these fabulous posts, I'm going to include a linky below where you can sign up once your post is ready. If you'd like to include the linky in your post, click here. I'd definitely appreciate it!
You have until Friday February 17th to create your post and add it to the linky. Then on Monday, February 20th Jay and I will be announcing six finalists and Everyone will have until Monday the 27th to vote for their favorite! Make sure you stop by and leave comments, feedback, etc. before then, though. We'll be taking people's reactions to the posts into account. If you love the love someone has shown to their favorite book boy, please say something! (C'mon, who doesn't love comments?)
Q: Um, Kat? Why is Jay helping? He's a guy!
Exactly! Jay has something that the rest of us probably lack in regard to this topic: objectivity. He isn't going to go "Awww! It's a post about Ash!" (From The Iron Fey series) or "OMG! She chose Jem! Right on!" (From The Infernal Devices). He'll be able to purely look at the time, effort and quality put into the posts, thereby making sure I don't (subconsciously, I swear!) pick the finalists based on the boys they write about and how *I* feel about them. That would kinda miss the point.
Q: But Kat! I don't have time to do a whole post!
That's totally okay, too. Because I have a giveaway planned for everyone who supports this event by promoting, checking out people's posts and commenting, and telling people about this in general. And yes, you *can* enter the giveaway and link up a post. Just so we're clear. It's not a this or that situation. :)
Q: What's Up For Grabs?
1. The winner of Who Do You Love?: will receive two (2) books of their choice from Book Depository. They will also (provided that they want this, though I can't see why they wouldn't?) have the opportunity to either replicate their post from the contest or do a guest post here about who they chose, where we'll give the winner a badge, list the two books the winner chose, etc. They are most welcome to use the badge on their site if they like.
2. The winner of the Who Do You Love Giveaway: will receive one (1) book of their choice from The Book Depository. Why am I giving more to the winner of the contest? Because I think it is going to take more effort and time to do a post and really put your heart into it. And because I really, really, really (I cannot stress this enough!) want to see people actually participate!
Rules and All that Other Stuff:
1. Giveaway and contest are open internationally wherever Book Depository ships.
2. You can enter both the contest and the giveaway -- in fact I encourage it. We need all the promotion, and all the entries, we can get! I want to see lots of book boy love, people!
3. You don't have to be Shakespeare to get involved. Have fun, be creative, get messy! (I believe that's the phrase?) This event is all about giving a shout out to a beloved character. It's not about who has the best writing or formatting -- it's about talking from the heart.
4. If there aren't enough entries / enough interest in the contest portion of this event, that part will be cancelled. I'm not giving two books away if we only get three entries. The expense of the event is coming out of my pocket directly. I'd *like* to see at least ten posts show up on that linky, but we'll see what happens and go from there. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but when I offer (what I think...?) is a good prize and two people sign up I'm left going "Wait, what?". This is easily avoided, folks! Tell your friends and make sure they get involved!
Time To Enter The Giveaway!
a Rafflecopter giveaway
Made your "Who Do You Love?" Post? Add it to the linky!
Thanks so much for checking out my event! I hope that everybody decides to get involved and that we can all have some fun with this! Good luck, everybody!

No worries. :) That's why there's a contest and a giveaway. That way everyone has a chance to win something. :)

I have so many book boyfriends I really can't choose :) I think it always depends on the book I'm actually reading :D
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway. I would probably choose one young adult book if I win.
Keep up the good work on blog! xo
My fav is Bones from Night Huntress :)
ReplyDeletei have a lot of guys that i would love to call my book boyfriends but eric from sookie i think still hits the top of my list... something about hot blonde vampire vikings... ;-)

I keep hearing fantastic things about her writing and I really need to check her books out. Thanks for reminding me!
Deleteit changes from time to time, but currently it would be Gabriel Luna from Meg Cabot's Airhead series
ReplyDeleteLOL I'm thinking of participating!
ReplyDeleteJimmy DeSade, who makes many appearances in Caitlin R. Kiernan's short story collection, Tales of Pain and Wonder, has been my book boyfriend for over a decade.
Hey, the more the merrier. :D Authors read too. *laughs* I'm so silly, I keep coming back to see whether any more entries have popped up. I need to be patient. *shakes head*
DeleteMy favourite would probably be Puck from Julie Kagawa's The Iron Fey series. Love his sense of humour and his pranks :D
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book boyfriend is Lucien from the Lords of the Underworld series
ReplyDeletePeeta, of course, is my first choice. But I do have quite the serious crush on Adam from If I Stay/Where She Went. He is talented, gorgeous, sensitive and an emotional wreck which is a sure sign that the girls will swoon for you lol.
ReplyDeleteI like Dimitri from the Vampire Academy series.
ReplyDeletejennifer k
I'm a Barrons fan...
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a fun contest. Although, I had a moment where I wondered if I could choose a favorite book boyfriend. Then the answer hit me and was soooo obvious. Mik from my writing partner's debut novel, Dawn of Darkness. I am head over heels for Mik. I will strangle my writing partner if he doesn't get cracking and write me more Mik! Look for my post on the 15th. =)
ReplyDeleteMy answer for the official contest was Etienne St. Clair from Anna and the French Kiss, but I have a ton of book boyfriends. Now I'm thinking maybe I should have chosen Nicholas for some shameless self promotion lmao. Great contest Kat, I had a blast doing my post, and I hope more people participate in the contest portion!
ReplyDeleteI really hope we get a lot of people tomorrow (Valentines day). I think I may have confused some people with what I wrote. When I came up with this, I basically made something I would take part in if someone else was doing it. (Which reminds me. Oh, crap! I have two posts that need to get ready to go up *now*!)
DeleteI would like to win... Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! happy valentines day!
